Hello and welcome back,

You may have noticed there was no April edition of The Spark. I want to be honest with you about why.

I took a pause. A proper one. Not because things were wrong, but because something was shifting and I needed to sit with it quietly before I could write about it.

I've been doing some of my own inner work lately. Asking myself harder questions. Looking at what I'm really here to do, who I'm really here to do it for, and whether the way I've been showing up fully reflects that. It was the kind of reflection I often invite my clients into and it turns out it's just as uncomfortable, and just as necessary, when you do it yourself.

What came out of it was clarity. And a change.

The Spark is evolving. We're shifting from a career-focused newsletter to something a little deeper. Because the more I sit with the women I work with, the more I see that the real questions were never really about careers. They were always about us. Who we are. What we want. Whether the life we're living actually fits.

So that's what we'll explore together from here. Clarity, inner work, and leading your life on your own terms. Grounded, practical, and real. And I promise you won't need a crystal ball or a meditation cushion.

May often feels like the month when we're supposed to have it together by now. The year is nearly half done. Summer is coming. And yet, for many of the women I work with, this is precisely the time a quiet unease surfaces. A sense that life is moving fast, but not quite in the right direction.

In my work, I see this pattern again and again. Capable, high-achieving women who have done everything right - the career, the progression, the performance - and yet find themselves sitting with a question they can't quite name. Is this it? Is this really what I wanted?

This isn't a crisis. It's a signal.

It's your inner intelligence trying to get your attention. And the most powerful thing you can do when that happens is not to push harder, plan more, or optimise further. It's to pause. To come back to yourself. To listen to what you already know.

This isn't soft thinking. There's solid science behind it. Dr. Judith Orloff, writing in Psychology Today, explained that women's brains are optimised for rapid, intuitive decision-making, with a thicker corpus callosum giving better and faster access to both hemispheres helping to integrate emotions and gut feelings with more logical decision-making functions.

A 2025 review published in Frontiers in Sociology goes further, positioning intuitive cognition as a core enabler of ethically grounded and adaptive decision-making. It also notes that women display greater activity in brain regions associated with interoception and emotional regulation, particularly the insula and anterior cingulate cortex.

In short: your instincts are not a weakness. They are data. The problem isn't that you don't know but rather that you've spent years in environments that told you not to trust what you know.

This is a simple reflection you can do in ten minutes: on a walk, over a coffee, or last thing before you close your laptop for the day.

There are no right answers. This isn't a plan. It's a way of checking in with yourself so that the decisions you make in the coming weeks feel a little more grounded.

Sit quietly for a moment. Take at least 5 deep, and slow, breaths.

Then ask yourself:

What am I carrying that isn't really mine? Think about the expectations, pressures, or "shoulds" that have accumulated. Which of them actually belong to you — and which belong to someone else's idea of who you should be?

What do I keep coming back to, even when I try to ignore it? The thought that surfaces between meetings. The thing you notice yourself reading about. The conversation that keeps finding you. What is it?

If I trusted myself completely, what would I do differently this week? Not this year. Not forever. Just this week. One small thing.

What does ‘enough’ look like for me right now? Not for your LinkedIn. Not for your annual review. For you.

Sit with the answers. You don't need to act on all of them immediately. Sometimes noticing is enough.

Alongside this newsletter, I share small reflection prompts on LinkedIn and Instagram. Simple questions to create a moment of stillness in the middle of busy days.

Here are a few to carry with you this month:

• What am I pretending not to know right now?

• Where in my life am I performing rather than actually living?

• What would feel lighter if I simply gave myself permission?

• What does my body know that my head hasn't caught up with yet?

• If a good friend described how I've seemed lately, what would they say?

• What am I ready to stop waiting for?

A question to sit with on a walk. A thought to return to between meetings. A moment of noticing rather than fixing.

🧠 Coaching Insight

A client recently told me she felt guilty for not feeling more grateful. She had a good job, a loving family, financial security. By every external measure, life was working. But she felt flat. Disconnected. Like she was watching her own life rather than living it.

When we slowed down and got curious - not critical, just curious - she began to see that she had spent years building a life that looked right from the outside and for what those around her needed, but had quietly stopped asking herself what she actually wanted from the inside.

She wasn't ungrateful. She was disconnected from herself. And that is a very different problem with a very different way forward.

Why this matters: the gap between the life that looks good and the life that feels good is almost always an inside job. And closing it doesn't require blowing everything up. It usually just requires getting honest and then getting quiet enough to hear what's true.

💬 A Final Thought

You don't need to have it all figured out by June. You just need to start listening to yourself again. Gently. Honestly. Without judgment.
